Obby’s Osstlers
Obby’s Osstlers is a walkabout performance involving a great deal of horse-play, snickering, and outlandish costumes, where an enigmatic horse-like figure, ‘Obby’, walks through an event with 2-3 assistants (called ‘osstlers’); the osstlers sing a song, joke with the attendees of the event and, when there is enough interest, stop to do a theatrical piece, based on interaction between the audience, the osstlers, and of course, Obby himself.
The Obby tradition, and the Obby costume dates back to earthier, Saxon times. What does this creature from the deep past have to say about today’s environmental issues?
